ATLANTA, Ga.—A 10-save night from Victoria Cruz (Duncanville, Texas) was not enough to keep the Scotties from their second consecutive loss, a 2-0 defeat at the hands of unbeaten Oglethorpe (6-0). The Scotties fall to 2-3 on the season after dropping a match to their second SAA opponent in a row.
Oglethorpe struck for a goal in each half with the first coming in the 20th minute on a nice give-and-go finish from Medina Besic.
The Stormy Petrels limited Agnes Scott to just two shots in the first half and only seven overall while putting up 21 shots of their own. Myah Johnson (Pepperell, Mass.) had two of Agnes Scott's four shots on goal, including a dangerous opportunity in the first set which could have given the Scotties an early lead.
Oglethorpe wore down a Scottie side dealing with a handful of injuries across the lineup and added an insurance goal in the 74th minute off of a loose ball in the 18-yard box from Kieran Burkey.
Alexis Hutson-Hamric made four saves for the Stormy Petrels, who had started out of the gate red hot following a four-win season in 2018.
The home team has won each of the last four matches. Agnes Scott was the last road team to secure a win in the all-time series, beating Oglethorpe 1-0 in Atlanta in 2014.
Agnes Scott continues its conquest against the SAA with a trip to Sewanee on Saturday.
