Scotties Compete at Berry Invitational

ROME, Ga.—Agnes Scott Women's Cross Country finished 23rd overall at the 2018 Berry Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning on the expansive campus of Berry College. Senior Ellie Vergura (Atlanta, Ga.) led the way for the Scotties in 157th out of 217 registered runners.

Vergura was the first Scottie to cross the finish line, her second time after leading the team in the opening meet at Covenant College. The Atlanta-native finished her first 6k of the season in 29:01, which earned the team 116 points.

Classmate Isabelle Eiden (Chicago, Ill.) was only a few slots behind in 172nd with a time of 29:50 in the team's longest event of the year. Newcomers Kaylah Edwards (Lilburn, Ga.) and Catherine Ortega also scored for the Scotties in 178th and 180th respectively. Ortega, running in her first collegiate race finished just a hair over 30 minutes at 30:13.

Avery Moore (Mariposa, Calif.) was the final Scottie to score on the day in 189th overall, exactly a minute after Ortega crossed the finish.

The Scotties "warm-ups" are officially finished as the USA South Conference meet at Maryville College is next on the docket on Friday, October 26 at 11 a.m.
