Scotties Post Personal Bests in Stacked Field

OXFORD, Ala.—Agnes Scott Cross Country finished 15th at a stacked Jacksonville State Foothills Invitational on Saturday morning. The Scotties were led by senior Allyssa Willis (Apache Junction, Ariz.) who finished 92nd overall in the 19-team meet.

Willis crossed the finish line with a time of 22:46 in the 5k race, just a few seconds off her season and career best. Classmate Ellie Vergura (Atlanta, Ga.) was not far behind in 111th with a timed finish of 24:20. Isabelle Eiden (Chicago, Ill.) also closed near her season-best time, finishing just three ticks off at 24:49.

Kaylah Edwards (Lilburn, Ga.) and Avery Moore (Mariposa, Calif.) were fourth and fifth respectively for the Scotties to finalize the team's score. Edwards crossed in 129th, beating her personal record at 26:09, which was 19 seconds better than the finish she posted last weekend in South Carolina. Moore was also able to shave some time off her previous season best at 26:21.

Division I Samford was the ultimate winner with 22 total points after placing four in the top five finishers. Regional Division III standout Emory and D1 Lipscomb rounded out the top three in the team results.

Agnes Scott is off for two weeks until they head to Berry College for the Vikings' home invitational—the Scotties first of two visits this fall. The Berry Invitational will be held on October 13 with a 10 a.m. race start.
