Scotties Run to Fourth Atop Lookout Mountain

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.—Agnes Scott Cross Country battled their way to a fourth-place finish at the Mountaintop Invitational on Friday evening. Humidity and hills were the stories of the day, but the Scotties saw many positives come out of the season-opening race.

Senior Ellie Vergura (Atlanta, Ga.) was the first Scottie to cross the line in the two-mile race with a time just under 16 minutes. Classmate Allyssa Willis (Apache Junction, Ariz.) was not far behind in 28th place at 16:23.

Isabelle Eiden (Chicago, Ill.) finished third for the Scotties in 34th overall, earning 21 points. Sophomore Hannah Brendell (Windhoek, Namibia) and senior Miranda Moore (Cumberland, Maine) each scored for the first times in their career in 36th and 38th respectively.

Covenant senior Lilly Smith took the meet title with a time of 12:42 and the Lady Scots excelled on their home course by placing five of the first six runners to cross the finish line. Sewanee finished in second with 49 points, while Maryville and Agnes Scott followed at 81 and 103 points.

The Scotties will have two full weeks of training as they look ahead to the Warrior Cross Country Invitational in South Carolina on September 14.
