Volleyball Ends Season with Home Quad

DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott volleyball saw its 2019 campaign come to a close with a pair of 3-0 losses to Brevard and Piedmont on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Woodruff Gymnasium. The Scotties hung tough all afternoon despite being extremely short-handed with no substitutes available for the matches.

The Scotties end their season at 0-23 and 0-14 in USA South Conference action. Piedmont ensured a trip to the postseason with split results on Saturday, losing to Covenant before rebounding against the Scotties in the quad finale. The Lions move to 10-18 overall and 6-8 in conference play. Brevard, who is ineligible for the postseason for one final year sits at 2-25 and 2-12 respectively.

Agnes Scott honored seniors Annie Weimerskirch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Kamiyla Lane (Atlanta, Ga.) before the final match of the day.

Match One: Brevard 3 – 0 Agnes Scott (25-19, 25-16, 25-17)

First-year Alex Roquemore (Dallas, Texas) had a match-high 12 points—11 kills and a block—to help the Scotties offense, but Brevard's spread attack proved too much for a Scottie side missing two of its top offensive options upfront.

Brevard had a season-high 18 kills in the first set against the Scotties and hit just well enough to down the Scotties for the second time in as many meetings. Hannah Gordon (Brevard, N.C.) had 19 assists for the Tornados, while Breanna O'Shields (Jonesborough, Tenn.) tied Roquemore with 11 kills and a solo block.

Caroline Irving (Columbus, Ga.) had a career-best 22 digs in the loss to go along with 15 assists.

Match Two: Piedmont 3 – 0 Agnes Scott (25-9, 25-12, 25-11)

The Scotties could never quite get settled as Piedmont controlled the match from beginning to finish. The Lions hit nearly .400 as a team, including a match-high nine kills from senior Erica Balkcum (Warner Robins, Ga.).

Roquemore added another six kills to her day's total. Ahmanie Guillaume (Orlando, Fla.) dug up 10 balls after securing 20 in the opener.
