Covenant Downs Scotties in Three Sets

DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott fell to Covenant in three sets at Woodruff Gymnasium on Tuesday night. On a night the Scotties celebrated the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month by donning their DigPink t-shirts, Agnes Scott was unable to get anything going on offense. The Scots dominated two of the three sets, winning outright 25-7, 25-21, 25-9.

It was a frustrating night for the Scotties, fresh off one of their most competitive matches of the season in a loss to Berea on Saturday. Several Scotties set career highs in that match, but the confidence displayed in Lookout Mountain on Saturday dimmed just enough to let the Scots get in a rhythm they would never relinquish.

Covenant did everything right in the opening set, blistering the Scotties to the tune of a 25-7 set. Statistically the two teams were on opposite sides of the spectrum with the visitors hitting at a .478 clip, while Agnes registered one of its worst sets of the season with a -.185 percentage.

The Scotties eventually settled down in the second set and ground their way to a tight game late. The Scotties had a chance to creep within a point at 23-21, but the Scots took the final two points of the set to take a two to nothing lead.

Covenant ran away with the match in the third, getting back to a blistering hitter pace to finish off the home side.

Tiara White (Sinton, Texas) hit a match-high eight kills.

Covenant's Leah Buys (Luverne, Minn.) set up 21 kills for a Scots offense that spread the love around. Ten different Scots registered a kill in the match for a team percentage of .232.

Agnes Scott (0-11) heads to LaGrange this weekend to take on the Panthers and Huntingdon College in a USA South quad.
