Scotties Beat Mountaineers to Extend Season

BEREA,Ky.—Agnes Scott Women's Volleyball got the win it needed in the final match of the regular season to clinch a postseason berth in the upcoming USA South. The Scotties rebounded from a 3-1 loss to LaGrange in the first match of the day to beat host Berea in four sets.

The Scotties cruised through the first two sets against Mountaineers, winning 25-12 and 25-16 respectively. Agnes had struggled in early sets during a nine-match losing streak, but the earlier match against LaGrange had the Scotties firing from the start. Berea fought back in the third set with a tight 25-22 win after falling on the right side of a back-and-forth finish.

The Mountaineers were poised to even the match with substantial leads at several points in the fourth, including holding a 24-21 advantage with three set points to play with. However, Agnes Scott won the final five points of the match, culminating with a stellar finish from sophomore Tiara White (Sinton, Texas) to put things on ice at 26-24.

Both Morgan Pearson (Pensacola, Fla.) and White had season highs with 17 kills apiece to pace a potent Scottie attack. White also posted a team-high 15 kills in the opener against LaGrange. The Scotties crushed their season-best attack percentage by hitting at a .286 clip for the match. First-year Makayla Nash (San Francisco, Calif.) was the leading back-line defender for Agnes Scott with 20 digs.

Senior Bella Kammerer (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) returned from a one-match hiatus to post a career-high 49 assists. Kammerer also became the first Scottie in the last decade to record 1,000 assists and 1,000 digs for a career, breaking the 1,000-assist mark toward the end of the fourth set.

The Scotties will await official announcement on their placement in the USA South tournament.
