Lions Protect Cave from Scotties

DEMOREST, Ga.—Piedmont shook off a wild first set before settling down to beat visiting Agnes Scott in three sets on Wednesday evening. The Lions improve to 6-5, while the Scotties drop to 2-12.

Paige Heck (Indianapolis, Ind.) was the leading offensive player for the Scotties with five kills, while Bella Kammerer (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) set up 11 finishes. Morgan Pearson (Pensacola, Fla.) finished with a team high 14 digs.

Neither team had much momentum in the first set with the lead trading hands several times. The Scotties held a 12-9 lead at the halfway point of the opening game, but a strong counter from the Lions saw them win 14 of the next 19 points to pull away for a 25-21 victory.

The Scotties could never quite recover from the opening set loss as the Lions found their groove on offense in the second and third stanzas to keep a safe distance between the two sides. Piedmont won the second set 25-13 and the deciding set 25-14.

Agnes' best shot at climbing back into the match came in the third set when they held a tight 9-8 in the third, but Piedmont was able to cobble together points in bunches a few times down the stretch. The Scotties were unable to match with streaks of their own.

The Scotties return home on Saturday to host a USA South Conference tri-match with Huntingdon and Covenant beginning at noon.
