Lions Top Scotties in Conference Tourney

MARYVILLE, Tenn.—Agnes Scott Volleyball saw its time in the 2017 USA South tournament come to an end with a three-set loss to third-seeded Piedmont on Halloween night. The Lions' offense was difficult to manage all night as the Scotties fell 25-13, 25-22, 25-15 in the first round.

The Lions moved on to the evening's second match of the day, where it lost to No. 2 Maryville in five sets. Agnes Scott sees its season close at 8-23 overall.

Resa Knott (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Scotties in her final collegiate match with eight kills to only one error. Bonnie Derks (Sylva, N.C.) and Paige Heck (Indianapolis, Ind.) both contributed seven kills each. Anna Tomkins (Chapel Hill, N.C.) dished out 22 assists and added another four kills herself.

The Scotties best chance at rebounding in the match came in the second set when the team hit .140 in total and held an advantage in the early going. However, Piedmont used a pair of big rallies to control the set by the midway point and held off a late Agnes run to claim a two-set lead.

All four of the top seeds in the tournament advanced to this weekend's semifinal round held at overall top seed Averett.
