Augustin Honored by USA South Conference

ROME, Ga.—First-year Damira Augustin (Dacula, Ga.) capped off a stellar first season in Decatur with a placement on the USA South West Division Second Team as announced by the conference on Thursday morning.

Augustin was a bright spot for the Scotties this spring, registering a record above .500 after being thrust into the top singles role for the program. Augustin started off the year with a 2-2 mark in the ITA Regional tournament in September before rattling off a 6-5 record at first singles this spring.

Augustin's best week of the season came during the Scotties' trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C. during spring break when the No. 1 Scottie went a perfect 4-0 in singles to earn the USA South Rookie of the Week award.

The Scottie is one of four rookies to be named to the 2019 awards list.

Averett University's Heidi Sarkkinen earned Player of the Year, N.C. Wesleyan College's Fariza Abdulloeva was named Rookie of the Year while her coach, Albie Brice, collected Coach of the Year accolades. Also, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school.
