Senior Day Shutout: Scotties Take Down Wolves at Home

DECATUR, Ga.—A trip home after a long, successful weekend did not deter Agnes Scott Tennis from rolling to its third consecutive USA South Conference victory. The Scotties celebrated Senior Day in style with a 9-0 sweep of visiting Wesleyan to keep its postseason play hopes alive and well. Agnes Scott blanked its opponent for the third straight match dating back to Friday.

The Scotties improve to 5-11 overall and 3-3 in conference action, while Wesleyan drops to 0-12 and 0-6 in the USA South.

Seniors Anastasia Bennett (Marietta, Ga.) and Camille Wilson (Cincinnati, Ohio) kicked things off with a bang by hanging an 8-0 result on their opponents. Taylor Lee (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Lizzy Engsberg (Atlanta, Ga.) followed suit by starting strong and finishing well after a mid-set lull at 8-4. Jasmine Keiler (Newnan, Ga.) and Felicia Jacques (Atlanta, Ga.) finished off the doubles sweep with a solid 8-2 result at the third flight. The two have combined to go 7-2 at that spot this year.

Agnes Scott was steady in singles action as Bennett and Wilson dropped only one game between them to clinch the match for the Scotties.

Lee outlasted Erin Laffey (Kennesaw, Ga.) at the top spot 6-0, 6-2, while Engsberg toughed out a 6-0, 6-3 match over Centara Nulf (Warner Robins, Ga.) at two.

Keiler brought the game to its penultimate result by overcoming slow start to win 6-4, 6-1 before Jacy Pippin (Atlanta, Ga.) closed things out with a 6-4, 7-6 win at the sixth flight.

The Scotties' season will hang in the balance on Saturday when Agnes Scott heads down to LaGrange with the final West Division spot on the line. Both teams entering this weekend's match with a 3-3 conference record.
