Scotties Falter in First Round of Conference Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Things did not go quite as planned for Agnes Scott women's soccer as the Scotties fell to fourth-seeded Huntingdon 5-0 in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks pressured the Scotties all afternoon while limiting chances on the other end to punch their ticket to a second-round matchup at Greensboro on Saturday afternoon.

Agnes Scott ends its season at 5-11, while Huntingdon improved to 6-10-2.

Huntingdon landed a crooked number on the Scotties for the second time in a week after taking a 4-1 result to clinch the four seed just last Wednesday. In that matchup, Agnes Scott was able to hang punch for punch with the Hawks, but could not finish prime opportunities.

The rematch provided a much different picture.

Huntingdon held the Scotties to only two shots for the game after Agnes Scott was able to get loose several times just a week ago. On the other side, the Hawks churned out 22 chances and put 13 of them on goal to force first-year keeper Ashley Kopczyk (Elgin, Ill.) into tough spots far too many times.

Four different Hawks scored on the day, including Alexis Louk, who scored her first goal of the season against the Scotties a week ago. The ultimate backbreaker looked to be an own goal committed by the Scotties just 15 seconds into the second half, which gave Huntingdon a three-score lead.

Kopczyk made eight saves for the Scotties in defeat.
