Vikings Blitz Scotties in Non-Conference Action

DECATUR, Ga.—Visiting Berry College dominated in all facets of a 7-2 win over Agnes Scott in women's soccer action on Saturday, September 14. The Vikings erupted for three goals in the first half before score four more in the second to send the Scotties to their second loss of the season. Berry improves to 5-1 on the year, while Agnes Scott levels at 2-2.

The Vikings got to the Scotties early with a goal from Karsen Brantley (Marietta, Ga.) in the ninth minute as the freshman broke through the Agnes Scott defense before launching a cross-body shot into the left pocket.

After Berry finished another for a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute, Myah Johnson (Pepperell, Mass.) and Skye Svehlak (Hunstville, Ala.) connected on a beautiful goal in the 44th minute. Johnson lofted a ball over the top of the Berry defense, allowing Svehlak to run onto it, control and send a missile into the goal to halve the deficit.

Agnes Scott's momentum did not last long as a defensive miscue in the waning seconds of the first half led to another goal for Berry, giving the Vikings a more insurmountable 3-1 halftime lead.

Berry continued to pile on in the early stages of the second half as Lyndsey Francinques (Cumming, Ga.) scored two goals in two minutes to make it a 5-1 game.

Johnson countered back with her fourth goal in two games, sliding a shot on a tough angle from the left side.

The Vikings added two quick goals off confusion in the defensive third to pad their lead to a safe 7-2 result.

Berry outshot Agnes Scott 31-4 for the game. The combination of first-year keepers Victoria Cruz (Duncanville, Texas) and Ashley Kopczyk (Elgin, Ill.) made 11 stops for the Scotties.

Agnes Scott is back in action on Wednesday night for its first road contest at Oglethorpe.
