Awards Announcement

ROME, Ga.—Agnes Scott Soccer's explosive weekend led to a pair of honors from the USA South Conference on Monday afternoon. Myah Johnson (Pepperell, Mass.) and Victoria Cruz (Duncanville, Texas) were named Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week respectively after leading the Scotties to an impressive 2-0 doubleheader weekend.

Cruz earned the first defensive award of her young career after stopping 15 of the 17 on-target shots directed at the Scottie goal. The first-year from Texas almost single-handedly kept the Scotties ahead of visiting Salem College, making several eye-popping saves including a diving stop on a penalty kick in the ninth minute of regulation. Cruz also made three saves in her first career clean sheet in a 1-0 win against William Peace on Saturday to start off the weekend.

Johnson was equally as impressive, scattering 12 shots over two games. The first-year striker showcased her combination of burst and athleticism, giving both opponent's defenses fits for the entirety of the 150 minutes she played. Despite being held scoreless by the Pacers on Saturday, Johnson still registered seven shots and consistently got behind the William Peace defense to wreak havoc.

On Sunday, Johnson broke out in a big way with her first career hat-trick. The attacker scored twice in the first half to give the Scotties a 2-0 halftime lead and one more in the second after Salem began to reclaim some momentum with a goal of its own.

The Scotties (2-1) return to the field on Saturday when they host Berry College at 2 p.m.
