Scotties Fall 4-0 at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga.—USA South West Division-leading Piedmont scored twice in each half to control a 4-0 win over Agnes Scott Women's Soccer on Saturday. The Scotties fall to 0-4 in conference action, while Piedmont remains unbeaten at 0-4.

Seeing the field for the first time in nearly a week, Agnes Scott struggled to break through on the offensive end against a speedy Piedmont side. The Scotties were outshot 32-7 for the game, but more importantly could only muster one dangerous chance for a shot on frame.

On the flip side, Piedmont put over a third of their attempts on target with four finding the back of the net. Veronica Cappas broke open the scoreless tie in the 12th minute when she finished off a deflection from the Agnes keeper. That score remained until the 38th minute when a clear chance off of a corner feel right to the feet of Katelyn Smith for an easy finish, giving Piedmont a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Piedmont added the all-important insurance goal 10 minutes after intermission with a finish from Anslyn Stamps. The Lions padded the scoresheet in the 88th minute when Amanda Weinhart sent home a ball following a great cross from Sarah Weber.

Abby Ackerson (Hoover, Ala.) made four saves in the first half for the Scotties, while Alyssa Bayus (Phoenix, Ariz.) stopped three shots in the second.

The Scotties head to Huntingdon on Tuesday for an increasingly pivotal divisional matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
