DECATUR, Ga.—Agnes Scott Women's Soccer saw its win streak stop at two games as Covenant scored twice early in the second half to lead the Scots to a 3-0 result over the Scotties at Gellerstedt Field. The Agnes Scott defense led by first-year Alyssa Bayus (Phoenix, Ariz.) held steady in the first half, but the Scots were able to capitalize with two strikes in a three-minute span to kick off the final half to outlast the Scotties on an unseasonably hot afternoon.
Agnes Scott sees its record dip just below .500 at 3-4-1, while also holding a 0-1 mark after the USA South Conference matchup for both sides. Covenant improves to 2-4-1 and 1-0 respectively.
Each side had a fair amount of chances in the opening 45 minutes with the crossbar helping both keepers out on a break. Despite Covenant holding a 9-5 shot advantage at the halftime break, Bayus' three stops kept the game scoreless.
The Scotties' best chance in the first came when Zoey Perchaluk got a little look from 20 yards out. The senior put a great curling ball over the head of Lemay, but it clinked off the crossbar and away from danger.
Covenant wasted no time out of intermission by sending the ball up the field from the opening tip. The Scotties were able to stop the initial push, but Covenant's pressure eventually yielded the first score of the game in the 49th minute when a long ball found its way over the Agnes defense. Junior Addy Cronan (Knoxville, Tenn.) was able to win a 50-50 ball with her mark and lifted the ball over the approaching Bayus for the tiebreaker.
Fewer than three minutes passed before the Scots put the ball in the net again. Kyra Duble (Lookout Mountain, Ga.) finished off her first goal of the season when Hannah Rodehaver (Tulsa, Okla.) found her feet on a centered pass.
Kailey Burrell (Trenton, Ga.) added an inconsequential goal in the 80th minute to make it a three-goal game.
Rachel Lemay (Apopka, Fla.) was largely untested with three saves to earn her second win in net. Bayus fared well despite taking the loss, stopping nine shots on the afternoon.
The Scotties head to LaGrange on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Panthers for a 4 p.m. start.
