Scotties and Pacers Scoreless in Delayed Draw

CARY, N.C.—Goals were hard to come by on a weather-marred afternoon as Agnes Scott and William Peace played to a 0-0 draw. The Scotties dominated the stat sheet but ultimately could not find the back of the net in a game that lacked any rhythm due to a near three-hour rain delay toward the end of the first half.

Agnes Scott will return to Decatur with one loss and one tie with its home opener against Birmingham Southern on the horizon on Wednesday. William Peace also holds a 0-1-1 mark through two games.

The Scotties controlled the tempo for much of the first half, but could only muster one shot on net over the first 45 minutes. Agnes Scott's defense was rock solid in the early going, never allowing the Pacers to penetrate its 18-yard box.

Sophomore keeper Abby Ackerson (Hoover, Ala.) was untested for the entirety of the contest thanks to the strong defensive work in front of her.

Despite a long layover in between game action, Agnes Scott was sharp coming out of the delay. The Scottie offense was able to consistently get behind the Pacers' final defender only to get stopped by keeper Makenzie Jones (Hope Mills, N.C.) on four different occasions.

Perhaps Agnes' best shot at a goal came from first-year Skye Svehlak (Huntsville, Ala.) who was looking for her second goal in as many days. The midfielder beat her mark and the center back to a ball up the left-center seam with only Jones to beat. The William Peace keeper came off her line enough to cut the angle and get just enough of the shot to push it wide.

Jones finished with four saves in the game, three coming in big moments in the second half.

The Scotties outshot the Pacers 12-1 for the game.
