Scotties Drop Road Tilt at Hollins Despite Season-Best Output

ROANOKE, Va.—A strong bench effort from Serena Lytton carried Hollins to a 71-49 over Agnes Scott College on Sunday afternoon at Main Gymnasium. Lytton scored 20 points in 34 minutes off the bench, while Agnes Scott's offensive leaders were limited due to foul trouble in the big win for Hollins. The Green and Gold improve to 2-2 on the season, while Agnes Scott falls to 0-6 to start the year.

The Scotties received its most balanced output from its starters to date with all 49 points coming off the hands of its starting five. Annie Weimerskirch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) posted a season-high with 11 points, helping Agnes Scott to a season-best six made shots from behind the arch.

Agnes Scott continued its strong starts on defense and did just enough on the offensive end to take an 11-7 lead into the second quarter. Unfortunately for the Scotties, the second and third quarters followed their own 2019 trends.

The Scotties were outscored 40-17 during the middle 20 minutes of regulation and could not reach double-digit scoring in either period. Foul trouble for senior starter Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) played a major role, as the forward was limited to seven points in just 14 minutes of action, and eliminated a consistently presence in the post on both sides of the floor.

Agnes Scott scored 21 points in the fourth quarter--a season-high in the ten-minute period—but gave up 24 points on the defensive end with Grant off the floor for the majority.

Emma Olson (Austin, Texas) picked up some of the production for the Scotties with 13 points, many of which came at the charity stripe—Olson made nine of 10 attempts. Shay Sweat (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Kalin Smith (Kiln, Miss.) each scored nine points for the Scotties. Sweat added a team-high nine rebounds.

Other than Lytton, Hollins placed two players in double-digits. Yasmine Tyler totaled 15 points, while Lenah Clements scored 13 in just 20 minutes of action. Guard Kayla Surles had a stat-stuffing day as a distributor, dropping 10 dimes.

Agnes Scott has Thanksgiving week off before returning to the floor at Covenant College on December 4 at 7:30 p.m.
