Tigers Quiet Scotties in Tournament Final

DECATUR, Ga.—Sewanee took a 63-45 victory over Agnes Scott College in the finale of the 2019 Agnes Scott Tip-Off Classic. A slow offensive start plagued the Scotties for the second night in a row and the Tigers took advantage for the fifth consecutive time. Sophomore Emma Olson (Austin, Texas) rebounded from Friday with a career night, scoring 16 points and collecting eight rebounds to lead all players in each category.

Agnes Scott falls to 0-2 to start the year while Sewanee moves to 1-1 after a loss to Maryville in its opener on Friday.

Neither team could find a bucket in the first quarter with the game going scoreless for nearly six minutes until Sewanee's Lakeisha Phillips (Lampertheim, Germany) hit one of two shots at the line.

Agnes Scott answered on the next possession with a deep three off the glass from Addison Harrison (Ellenwood, Ga.). The offenses continued to sputter over the final four minutes of the period, but Agnes Scott was able to scrape to a 6-5 advantage after one.

The two teams started to head in different directions early in the second quarter as Sewanee began to find the bottom of the bucket. The Tigers scores six points in the first 90 seconds of the quarter, while Agnes continued to struggle to get into any rhythm on offense.

After Kalin Smith (Kiln, Miss.) stole a pass and took it in for an easy lay-in to make it an 11-8 game, Sewanee outscored the Scotties 11-5 for the rest of the quarter to grab a 22-13 lead at the break.

For the second night in a row, Agnes Scott settled down in the second half and took advantage of what the defense gave them—scoring 15 and 17 in the final two periods. Unfortunately for the Scotties, Sewanee also shook off its early-game fog and capitalized off 29 Agnes Scott turnovers to beat the home side by 18.

Kinsley Logan (Lynchburg, Tenn.) and Abby Young (Maryville, Tenn.) paced the Tigers with 11 points each. First-year Camryn Broussard (LaVergne, Tenn.) finished off a nice debut weekend with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and six boards off the bench. Sophomore guard Ellie Treanton (Clarksville, Tenn.) did it all for the Tigers, almost completely the unconventional double-double with 10 rebounds and nine steals.

Smith got into double-figures with 11 points in 26 minutes. Harrison finished with eight despite fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Agnes Scott is off until next weekend when they head to Alabama to take on Birmingham Southern and Millsaps in the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic.
