Scotties Erupt for 88 in Dominant Win at Wesleyan

MACON, Ga.—Agnes Scott Women's Basketball put a big check in the win column as the Scotties controlled host Wesleyan for all 40 minutes in a dominant 88-22 victory at Porter Gymnasium. Several Scotties saw career highs across a multitude of stat categories, but none more glaring than a game-high 20 points for first-year Deja White (Loganville, Ga.) off of the bench.

The game was not in doubt long after the tip as the Scotties quickly jumped out to their largest lead of the season at 15-1 by the midway point of the first quarter. Kalin Smith (Kiln, Miss.) ran the offense smoothly from the get-go, racking up 10 assists in the first half as the Scotties nearly reached their scoring average by halftime.

Agnes Scott held Wesleyan to only three points in the first quarter while scoring an efficient 24 on the other end. The Scotties did not slow down in the second and led 44-12 by the end of the first 20 minutes of action.

Things got even more out of hand in the third as Agnes Scott outscored the Wolves 21-1 in the third period before closing out the game with another 23-9 run for good measure.

White did much of her scoring in the second half as the Scotties began to wear down the Wolves and got out in transition with ease. Her 20 points greatly surpassed the previous career high of six points, which she set on Sunday in a loss to Piedmont.

Smith kept up what is becoming a status quo offensive effort with 15 points, her fifth consecutive game in scoring double figures. The first-year guard also finished with 13 assists on the night, the most by a Scottie in archived program history.

Emma Olson (Austin, Texas) also had a career-best 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including draining her first career three on a corner jumper in the first half. Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) put up another double-double effort with 11 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks to add to her USA South leading total.

Agnes' 88 points was a program-best since the 2006-07 team put 101 on Wesleyan in February of 2007. The Scotties also had a program-high 27 steals in the contest, turning them directly into 36 points.

Agnes Scott improved to 1-15 on the season and 1-6 in the conference. Wesleyan falls to 0-13 and 0-6 respectively. The Scotties will hope to keep things moving in the right direction when they host Covenant on Saturday afternoon. The Scots took down the Scotties a week ago in Lookout Mountain, so Agnes Scott will be looking for revenge the second time around.
