Scotties Downed by Lynx in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—Rhodes College defended its home gym with a 73-47 win over Agnes Scott in the final game of 2018 for both teams. The Lynx outscored the Scotties in each quarter and broke open the game in the final period to win its seventh contest of the season. Agnes Scott falls to 0-12 this year.

First-year Kalin Smith (Kiln, Miss.) kept the tradition of a Scottie leading all scorers, as the guard followed up a stellar performance from classmate Briana Holland (Austell, Ga.) with 21 points of her own. Annie Weimerskirch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Holland both had eight points for the Scotties.

The Lynx showed why they'll be a contender in the Southern Athletic Association in the second semester with a strong showing from the start. Rhodes received near-perfect offensive showings from Allie Young and Lindsey Whiteside in the early going and never really looked back.

Agnes Scott had cut the deficit to just nine points by the halftime break, but Rhodes left no doubt in the second half by outscoring the Scotties 38-21 down the stretch.

Young (20 points) and Whiteside (13 points) paced the Rhodes' effort.

Scottie Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) was the leading rebounder on either side with 11, while also picking up another two blocks for her season total.

Agnes Scott is back in action on Wednesday when they return to conference play with an away game at Covenant for a 2 p.m. start.
