Mountaineers Top Scotties 77-47

DECATUR, Ga.—A third-quarter push helped visiting Berea to a 77-47 victory over Agnes Scott Women's Basketball in USA South action. After the Scotties trimmed a large deficit before the half, Berea scored the first 18 points of the second half to put away the game.

Berea capitalized on slow starts by the Scotties at the beginning of each half to virtually out the game out of reach. The Mountaineers outscored the Scotties 25-10 in the opening quarter and extended the lead to as many as 20, but Agnes Scott's offensive came alive toward the end of the half thanks to the deep ball from Kalin Smith (Kiln, Miss.).

Again, a rough start to the second half allowed the Mountaineers to turn a 13-point lead into a 31-point advantage in under five minutes. The Mountaineers put up another 25-point quarter in the third, while holding the Scotties to under 10 points.

Agnes Scott started to hit shots in the fourth quarter, but it was too late to mount a comeback attempt.

Briana Lanham (Berea, Ky.) led all players with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Nakeisha Greene (Lexington, Ky.) had 12 points and 13 boards, while Bethanie Williams (Newport, Tenn.) had 14 points off the bench.

Annie Weimerskirch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) scored 12 in the second half after Smith scored 12 in the first to pace the Scotties. Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) had a quiet night on offense, but blocked a season-high seven shots while getting 10 rebounds and three steals. Seven blocks was the second highest of her career as she blocked eight at Covenant in February of 2017.

The Scotties are back in action on Tuesday at Emory at 5 p.m.
