MARIETTA, Ga.—Life University held onto a big early lead to down Agnes Scott 85-51 in non-conference women's basketball play on Saturday evening. Life improves to 5-2 this season, while Agnes Scott falls to 0-4 to start the year.
Playing without two of their main rotation players, including junior Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.), Agnes Scott was forced to find other avenues on the offensive end. Kamiyla Lane (Atlanta, Ga.), a junior forward, stepped into Grant's place and made six buckets on nine attempts for a team-high 12 points. Joining her was classmate Annie Weimerskirch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), who buried three triples and finished with 12 as well.
Emma Olson (Austin, Texas) and Shay Sweat each added nine points for the Scotties. Olson finished just a point and a rebound off her first career double-double. Nine rebounds led the team on the evening.
For the second consecutive game, Agnes Scott found themselves in a big hole before they could even blink. The Running Eagles scored the first 19 points of the game and held a firm 26-11 advantage after the first quarter despite the Scotties coming alive over the final three minutes.
Life extended the deficit to 43-19 by halftime and was never really threatened despite improved play from a short-handed Scottie side in the second half. The Running Eagles full-court pressure was tough to break, forcing 35 turnovers by the Scotties—their most in a game since December 2017. Life had a season-high 28 steals.
The Scotties nearly broke to 40-percent plateau despite the loss of Grant's double-double average, but getting free throws to fall continue to be an issue for the Scotties.
Agnes Scott has the Thanksgiving break to refocus before heading to Birmingham Southern on November 28.
