Bruins Stop Scotties on Day Two of Classic, 65-60

MONTGOMERY, Ala.—A fast start for the Bruins of Bob Jones University vaulted them to a 65-60 win over Agnes Scott Women's Basketball on Friday afternoon on day two of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Huntingdon College. The Bruins took a double-digit lead early in the first quarter and held off a fourth-quarter charge by the Scotties to even their record at 3-3. The Scotties fall for the first time in 2017 after an exciting win over Rust on Thursday.

The Bruins seemed eager to snap a three-game losing streak, which included a tough loss to LaGrange on Thursday evening. Bob Jones quickly raced out to an 11-1 advantage in the first four minutes of regulation and kept the Scotties at a distance for much of the contest.

Despite falling behind early, Agnes found its rhythm on offense late and trimmed the lead down to as few as four points before the Bruins held on for the five-point win. Senior Natasha Banks (Douglasville, Ga.) had a career game with 21 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Garis Grant (Charleston, S.C.) hit the 20-point mark for the second game in a row right on the dot.

The Scotties outrebounded their foes for the second consecutive night, 38-32, but turnovers played a larger role on Thursday. The Bruins turned 21 Scottie turnovers into 22 points.

Sophomore guard Anna Weimerskirch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) was the leading rebounder on either side with eight.

Agnes Scott will look to rebound from the loss tomorrow as they take on Pensacola Christian in the final game of the classic in Montgomery, a 7 p.m. start time.
