Strong First Quarter Not Enough as Scotties Fall, 70-49

DECATUR, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College basketball team came out on fire this evening against the heavily-favored Birmingham Southern College squad, who were coming off of impressive victories over Emory and Covenant College.  The Scotties jumped out to a 23-10 lead after one period of play, but it was not enough, as the Panthers (5-0) exploded for 25 points in the second quarter, before running away from the Scotties in the second half, winning by a final score of 70-49.

For the Scotties (1-5), who opened the season with 5 road games before finally playing in front of their home fans, Laniqua Collins had a strong night with 13 points, while Jalexis Teemer put in 12 of her own.

The Scotties will have a short turnaround before returning to the court at home on Wednesday, with a 6:00 pm matchup against LaGrange College.
