Scotties Battle Hard in 62-54 Loss To Point

DECATUR, Ga. - Agnes Scott College saw their two-game winning streak stopped by NAIA member Point University in front of a packed house at the Woodruff Gymnasium, with the Scotties (4-10) falling by a score of 62-54.  Point (13-8) used 27 points from Candace Rhodes and a 15-for-18 performance from the free throw line to hand the loss to the Scotties.

In the first half, Point raced to an early lead before Jalexis Teemer helped the Scotties come back to within two at 29-27 in the first half, nailing three shots from behind the arc for a team-leading 9 points.  The Eagles would score two late baskets off of Scottie turnovers to stretch the lead back to 33-27 before halftime.

In the second half, the Scotties got to within a basket on several occasions, but Point used solid free throw shooting and 14 second-half points from Rhodes to keep the lead for the entire half.  Teemer would finish with 18 points for the Scotties, while Kisha Simpson would chip in with 19 points and 8 rebounds to lead the home team.  Miranda Arnold led the Scotties in rebounding, registering a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, along with 2 blocked shots.

"I am proud of the way our girls fought the whole way to the end tonight," indicated head coach Trish Roberts, "and it was great having such a vibrant crowd in the stands tonight cheering us on."

As a team, the Scotties were even in rebounding with the Eagles, with both team having 40 rebounds.  The difference came at the free throw line, with Point going 15-for-18 and the Scotties struggling to 42% shooting in a 6-for-14 performance behind the charity stripe.

The Scotties will return to the hardwood on Saturday, January 31 for a matchup with Rust College.  Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Woodruff Gymnasium.  Admission to the public is free.
