Scotties Fall to Emory Basketball

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Agnes Scott College basketball team struggled to keep up with a deep Emory team this evening across town in Atlanta, falling to the Eagles, 79-40.  The Scotties (2-5) suited up only six players for the contest, due to various injuries, and will look forward to some time off to heal and prepare for the second half of the season.

Emory (5-2) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead and never looked back against the Scotties, despite a valiant effort by the Scotties to hang tough with the perennial powerhouse in NCAA Division III.  Kisha Simpson continued her assault on the glass with a 12 rebound performance, to come in just under her season average of 12.7 per game, which places her 21st in the nation in that category, and second amongst all freshmen.  She also contributed 9 points, while her classmate, Jalexis Teemer, led the Scotties in scoring with 11.  Shavonne Orr also contributed 9 points in the losing effort.

Simpson, Teemer and Orr all played the entire 40 minutes of the game, while Emory was able to utilize their depth on the bench, seeing 12 players lodge more than 10 minutes apiece, and having no player on the floor more than 25 minutes.

"We are a little banged up right now," commented head coach Trish Roberts, "but the girls showed a lot of heart out there tonight and are really fighting hard to compete.  We had a nice win on Saturday against Covenant and only had seven healthy players, so we are doing well considering the circumstances."

The Scotties will have several weeks off to heal up, before returning to the court on January 4 at Millsaps College.
