Falcons Sweep Scotties in Non-Conference Series

DECATUR, Ga.—Pfeiffer University softball showed why it is one of the front-runners in the USA South Conference this season with two comfortable wins over Agnes Scott College on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons used an explosive fourth inning in game one to spur on an 18-1 victory before holding on a 15-2 win.

Agnes Scott sees its ledger fall to 2-6 on the season, while Pfeiffer improves to 5-1. The Scotties return to Oakhurst Park on Sunday when they host USA South East Division foe Salem College beginning at noon.

Game One

After a scoreless first two innings, Pfeiffer broke through for five runs in the top half of the third. The Falcons put the game away for good with a 10-spot in the fourth. Kari Westerbeek got the scoring started with a solo shot to left field, but Agnes Scott helped the Falcons out with three inning-extending errors—putting nine unearned runs on the board for a 15-0 lead.

KayLeigh Fitzgerald (Dalton, Ga.) was the bright spot in the lineup for the Scotties with a deep homer over the cages in center.

Game Two

Pfeiffer controlled momentum into the series finale, hitting through the lineup in the first inning and tacking six runs on the board.

Agnes Scott answered with a run in the bottom of the first only to see the Falcons cross the plate six more times in the top of the second to put a comfortable cushion between the two sides.

Fitzgerald added another solo home run in the fourth inning, her second of the day and fourth of the season.

Sarah Fox (Cartersville, Ga.) led the Scotties with three hits between the two games, including a 2-for-2 performance in the finale.

Pfeiffer's Kari Westerbeek was the top offensive player for both sides, going 6-of-8 at the dish with a home run and five RBI.
