Scotties Pull in Eight Accolades from Easton/NFCA Academic Awards

2018-19 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete List

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Agnes Scott softball placed seven players on the 2018-19 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete list, as announced by the organization on Thursday.

The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. NCAA Division III led the way with 1,928 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2018-19. NCAA Division I and Division II followed with 1,769 and 1,306 honorees. High School weighted and High School unweighted earned 1,225 and 793 distinctions. NAIA and two-year programs each amassed 570 recipients.

Seven Scotties hit the 3.5 mark or above in 2019, three more than the team earned during the 2017-18 academic calendar. The following Scotties were honored for their academic success: Jamie Candler (Caseyville, Ill.), Jessica Costero (Miami, Fla.), Jani Howington (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Jordan Keesler (Trenton, Ga.), Kayla Spinks (Social Circle, Ga.), Emma Thomas (Navarre, Fla.) and Alexei Young (McDonough, Ga.).

The program as a whole was also honored after securing a team GPA of 3.4 during the 2018-19 academic year. Their team GPA placed them 55th in the country in NCAA Division III, which was tops in the USA South Conference last year.

Agnes Scott begins its 2020 schedule at home against Rust on February 8.
