Spirits Outpace Scotties in Non-Conference Twinbill

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Agnes Scott Softball's road trip to North Carolina met a difficult end as the Scotties were swept by former GSAC rival Salem on Sunday afternoon. The Spirits shutdown the Scotties offense, outscoring them 19-2 in the doubleheader sweep. Salem took the first game 10-2 before settling for a 9-0 win in game two.

The Scotties (2-14) stretch against the top of the conference continues this week with a trip to Piedmont on Wednesday.

Agnes scored its only two runs of the day in the fourth inning of game one with an RBI double from KayLeigh Fitzgerald (Dalton, Ga.). Fitzgerald has racked up extra-base hits over the last three series after a quiet start to the season. The first-year had a double in game two as well.

Salem outhit the Scotties 31-10 for the day, which included an eye-popping nine hits for extra bases.

Michaela Dailey (Smiths Station, Ala.) and Fitzgerald were the leading hitters for the Scotties with three hits apiece.

Salem's top five hitters gave Agnes Scott pitching fits with multi-hit games in each contest.
