MISENHEIMER, N.C.—Pfeiffer University proved why it was a preseason favorite in the USA South East Division, beating Agnes Scott 17-2 and 11-3 on Saturday afternoon. The Scotties hit well against one of the hottest teams in the region, but Pfeiffer's nationally touted offense kept the pressure on from the start.
Agnes Scott falls to 2-12 on the season, while Pfeiffer improves to 16-2. The Falcons are in their final year of transitioning to a full NCAA Division III member.
Game One
Pfeiffer played a near flawless game thanks to the efforts from veterans Vada Blue Sherrill and Kiana Millsaps. The two seniors combined for nine runs batted in and a pair of homers to kick start an offense that hit five balls over the fence in the series.
Sherrill entered the day leading the USA South in nearly every offensive category and would be a national leader in several if the Falcons were fully transitioned into Division III. The senior infielder knocked in game-high five RBI, including a grand slam in the first inning as the Falcons raced out to a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
With offense hard to come by on the other side, Agnes used its speed atop the order to create issues on the base paths. Both Scotties runs came off of double steals.
Kayla Quesenberry (Inverness, Fla.) had two of Agnes' three hits in the contest.
Game Two
For the second game in a row, Pfeiffer scored nine runs in the first inning to put the Scotties in a near insurmountable hole.
However, unlike game one, Agnes Scott was able to string hits together to put themselves within striking distance in the fourth. First-year Kayleigh Fitzgerald (Dalton, Ga.) hit a two-run homer in the fourth just two days after hitting two goners in an exhibition series versus West Georgia Tech. The first-year went 2-for-3 in the game, while Tiara White (Sinton, Texas) was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish.
White singled in another run with the bases loaded after Fitzgerald's home run, but Pfeiffer brought in Millsaps in relief to get the final out of the frame and keep it a 9-3 game.
The Falcons added two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth, including their fifth round-tripper of the afternoon to end things 11-3 after five innings.

Agnes heads to the Winston-Salem area to take on former Great South rival Salem on Sunday afternoon beginning a noon.
