Kern Resigns as Director of Athletics

DECATUR, Ga.—The Agnes Scott College Athletics department will see a change in leadership for the 2019-20 academic year after Allison Kern announced her decision to step down from the role of director of athletics.

Kern leaves the director of athletics post after one year at the helm and three years at the college in total. She spent the 2016-17 school year as the head women's basketball coach before making the transition into athletics administration after being named the department's first assistant athletic director for external affairs.

Under her leadership, Agnes Scott Athletics saw a profound increase in engagement and an expanded footprint both internally and beyond the Agnes Scott College community. Kern was a pivotal figure in the athletics department creating and installing its first-ever golf tournament fundraiser, the Agnes Scott Athletics Golf Classic, at the internationally renowned East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The fundraiser has grown tremendously heading into its third installation in spring of 2020.

Kern was also an important factor in the athletics department refocusing its branding ahead of the 2017-18 academic year, reconfiguring the program's color scheme, logo and social media strategy for a more comprehensive appeal to current and potential stakeholders.

"While I am personally saddened to see her leave Agnes Scott, she has my full support," said Karen Goff, vice president for student affairs and dean of students. "I know with the groundwork laid by her predecessors, as well as the work she has done to advance the ASC athletics program, I am confident Agnes Scott Athletics will continue to grow and thrive."

A national search for a replacement will begin in the fall.
